How To Make Stewed Bamiya
The English word for Bamyia is Okra; one of the best dishes in Egypt is stewed okra. It is a great dish to accompany rice and meat dishes.

Okra is a popular health food due to its high fiber, vitamin C, and folate content. Okra is also known for being high in antioxidants. Okra is also a good source of calcium and potassium.

Method

  1. Sauté onions in oil
  2. Add garlic and sauté some more until garlic turns golden color
  3. Add the okra. Sauté until it is soft, this takes few minutes if the okra is frozen and may take longer if it is fresh. Some people deep fry the fresh okra before cooking it.
  4. Add fresh tomatoes and stir around for few minutes
  5. Add tomato sauce/paste and add water if needed
  6. Add salt and black pepper
  7. Boil at first then lower the heat and let simmer until the tomatoes and the okra are cooked. This might take around 35-45 minutes
  8. Serve hot with rice on the side
